Professional Amplifier Installation Services

Most people associate car audio amplifiers with the annoying kid down the street with the subs rattling the entire street as they drive by. While there may be some truth to that, amplifiers are key to better sound quality, not just loud systems.

Adding an amplifier to your system will give you a clean power source that will drive speakers without straining (something that even the best aftermarket radios can’t do). Amplifiers provide fuller, cleaner sound at all sound levels and allow the highest quality music reproduction. You may also need to add an amplifier to get more power if you are thinking of upgrading factory speakers.

Choosing the Right Amplifier

When choosing an amplifier to power upgraded speakers, use an amplifier whose top RMS output per channel is no higher than each speaker’s top RMS rating. Amplifiers are also classified by how many channels they have. Each ‘channel’ is intended to power one speaker so how many channels you need depends on the audio system you have planned. A 4-channel amplifier will power all 4 speakers in your vehicle, or a 4-channel amplifier could be used to power 2 speakers and one subwoofer by ‘bridging’ 2 channels into one. 5-channel amplifiers are becoming more popular as they can power all 4 speakers and an added subwoofer in one compact solution.

Subwoofer Considerations

Before purchasing an amplifier, you should decide whether you would like to add a subwoofer to the vehicle (either now or in the future).  This can save you time and money down the road if your system is already set up to add a subwoofer.

When discussing subwoofers, the annoying kid down the street mentioned above tends to come to mind.  Subwoofers can add a bit of refined bass and make a significant improvement to the overall sound without angering the neighbors.  Because factory car speakers are small (typically 6” in diameter), they don’t produce enough of the low-frequency sound to give that depth of sound.  It only takes one subwoofer to make a big difference and with today’s options, these subwoofers can be added in discrete locations without sacrificing trunk space.
