Some factory radios in newer vehicles have most of the features and functionality we need like Smartphone integration, but the sound quality can be lacking. Even premium branded factory systems like Bose, Harmon Kardon, Bang & Olufsen, or JBL use mediocre speakers.

Most factory speakers are made of inexpensive materials like paper that don’t hold up to the heat and humidity found in a vehicle (especially in Florida). They lack the accuracy, detail, and power handling of quality aftermarket speakers.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CAR SPEAKERS

New speakers are one of the most cost-effective ways to improve the sound in your vehicle but shopping for car speakers can be overwhelming.  It all starts with what size speakers will fit in your vehicle which can be found in the owner’s manual, or you can just call us (much easier).  Once the size is determined we can recommend either full range or component speakers.

Full Range Speakers

Full range speakers are considered the ‘all in one’ speaker.  They consist of the woofer for lows and a tweeter for the highs which would be a basic 2-way speaker (these will be the lowest price option).  There are also models that will include midrange or additional tweeters and are referred to as 3- or 4-way speakers.  Full range speakers are typically easier/cheaper to install but having all frequencies coming out of the same location means you lose some of the depth of sound.

Component Speakers

Component speakers also have a woofer and tweeter, but they are separate and will include a crossover.  The big advantage to component speakers is the depth of sound achieved.  The tweeter (or highs) can be mounted higher in the vehicle closer to your ears versus in a door pointed at your knees.  The addition of the crossover ensures that the correct frequencies are directed to the appropriate driver (tweeter/highs versus woofer/lows).  Component speakers are a little more expensive but are a must for a great sounding system.

On average, factory speakers and radio are rated around 10 watts RMS while reasonably priced aftermarket speakers run around 25 watts RMS (and go up from there).  To get the full capability of your new aftermarket speakers, a new amplifier may be needed.
